Joe Tale Elected to the LAIKO Board of Trustees

IC Statement
regarding our brother Joe Tale’s
election to the LAIKO Board of Trustees

IC STATEMENT

October 20, 2009

A HISTORIC FIRST FOR CFC

Greetings of peace!

We are pleased to announce that Joe Tale, CFC Chairman, was elected to the 15-member LAIKO Board of Trustees during the Laiko biennial national conference held last October 16-18 in San Fernando, Pampanga. The term of the new Board is for two years, commencing on January 2010.

This is a historical first for CFC and a wonderful opportunity to be represented in the Board of Laiko (Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas), the umbrella organization for Catholic lay organizations in the Philippines. Laiko, formerly known as Council of the Laity of the Philippines, is under the Catholic Bishops of the Philippines’ (CBCP) Episcopal Commission on the Lay Apostolate (ECLA). The incoming chairman, effective December 2009, is Bishop Jesse Mercado of the diocese of Paranaque.

Aside from being elected to the board, Joe was also designated as the PRO during the board meeting and election that followed. The new president of Laiko, and current Executive Vice-President, is Edgardo Tria Tirona of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The outgoing President is Linda Tacorda of the Teresian Association.

CFC rejoices at this welcome development and sees this as another opportunity to share its gifts in the service of the Lord and Church. This is also a good venue for strengthening the working relationship between CFC and the Bishops and Clergy, as well as with the other lay organizations. Our brother Joe’s election to the Laiko board is indicative of the respect that other Catholic organizations have for CFC.

The CFC delegation to the biennial conference consisted of IC members Joe Tale, Joey and Tess Arguelles, Lito and Linda Tayag, and Willie and Winnie Madarang, CFC leaders from the Metro Manila South B sector.

May God be praised for His goodness and for His affirmation of our role as evangelizers, witnesses and servants to all.

FOR THE CFC INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL

Signed

JOEY ARGUELLES

FEAST OF OUR LADY OF THE HOLY ROSARY

Feast Day: Mary, Image and Mother of the Church

Mother of the Redeemer,
with great joy we call you blessed.

In order to carry out His plan of salvation,
God the Father chose you before the creation of the world.
You believed in His love and obeyed His word.

The Son of God desired you for His Mother
when He became man to save the human race.
You received Him with ready obedience and undivided heart.

The Holy Spirit loved you as His mystical spouse
and filled you with singular gifts.
You allowed yourself to be led
by His hidden powerful action.

On this third Christian Millennium,
we entrust to you the Church
which acknowledges you and invokes you as Mother.

To you, Mother of human family and of the nations,
we confidently entrust the whole humanity,
with its hopes and fears.
Do not let it lack the light of true wisdom.
Guide its steps in the ways of peace.
Enable all to meet Christ,
the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

(Mention your intentions)

Sustain us, O Virgin Mary, on our journey of faith
and obtain for us the grace of eternal salvation.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Mother of God
and our Mother, Mary! Amen.

In your motherly love, calm our fears and increase our trust in God's loving care. According to God's plan, obtain for us the healing we need. Intercede with your Son that we may have the strength we need to work for God's glory and the salvation of the world. Amen.

Day 4: Mary, Mother of Unity

FEAST OF OUR LADY OF THE HOLY ROSARY

Novena: October 2-10, 2009

Day 4: Mary, Mother of Unity

Spouse of the Holy Spirit and Seat of Wisdom, help us in the great endeavor that we are carrying out to meet on a more and more mature way our brothers and sisters in the faith, with whom so many things unite us, although there is still something dividing us. Through all the means of knowledge, of mutual respect, of love, shared collaboration in various fields, may we be able to rediscover gradually the divine plan for the unity in which we should enter. Mother of unity, teach us constantly the ways that lead to unity.

Allow us in the future to go out to meet human beings and all the peoples that are seeking God and wishing to serve him on the way of different religions. Help us all to proclaim Christ.

(Mention your intentions)

Mother of Good Counsel, show us always how we are to serve the individual and humanity in every nation, how we are to lead them along the ways of salvation. How we are to protect justice and peace in a world continually threatened on various sides. Let us entrust to you all the difficult problems of the societies, systems, and states–problems that cannot be solved with hatred, war and self-destruction but only by peace, justice, and respect for the rights of people and nations.

Amen.
